Deadlines – Friend or foe?

Deadlines – Friend or foe?

I’ve learned to love deadlines during my studying for the past 2ish years in different online courses. I’ve had some rush and also tiredness when studying Creative Design Management master’s studies this spring. But when a deadline is attacking to its fullest, the game is on. I change to an amazingly effective learning machine ๐Ÿ˜…

Starting late is known as student syndrome, a phenomenon where people delay doing things until right before the deadline. I’m lucky to start doing things at least quite early with the tasks and keep myself in the rhythm.

Deadlines are, of course, present in studying but in the work area. Working async and sync in remote environments, it’s crucial to prioritize to meet dates and deadlines and get the work done. I think it’s quite easy to keep up with different deadlines by creating effective practices to use digital tools and platforms to stay up to date with many tasks and dates. Frequent communication and transparency are key factors to be successful and productive with your work and those timelines, etc. Many companies also use daily check-ins to ensure smooth sailing in the sea of deadlines ๐Ÿ˜Š

Some effective strategies to meet the deadlines according to Solving Procrastination (https://lnkd.in/dkkfxNZ4) are:

โ˜˜๏ธ Start doing the studies early.
โ˜˜๏ธ Identify your productivity cycles.
โ˜˜๏ธ Start with small steps.
โ˜˜๏ธ Start with the best or worst part first.
โ˜˜๏ธ Set concrete and achievable goals, keep your goals in mind and focus on them.
โ˜˜๏ธ Set intermediate deadlines.
โ˜˜๏ธ Try the Pomodoro technique.
โ˜˜๏ธ Anchor the great feeling when finishing the task and restoring it when needed.
โ˜˜๏ธ Reward yourself when accomplishing your goals.

According to studies (for example Effectiviology,ย https://lnkd.in/dgrxsf-A), deadlines have some positives to them, like:

๐Ÿ”† Making goals and tasks feel more concrete.
๐Ÿ”† Creating or increasing urgency.
๐Ÿ”† Creating or increasing commitment.
๐Ÿ”† Setting intermediate deadlines can help you figure out what exactly you should study and when. Also, planning this in advance means that when itโ€™s time to study, you can focus on studying, rather than on planning what to study.
๐Ÿ”† Similarly, setting a deadline by which you have to publish a certain work can help ensure that you wonโ€™t spend more time on it than necessary.

And what about AI and other tech assistants to maybe help and inform with coming dates from the employees?

Love your deadlines, folks! ๐Ÿ˜
